European Research Group

Founded in 1998, ICSC's European Research Group (ERG) is formed of 50 experienced and highly regarded professional researchers from all areas of the retail real estate industry in Europe.

The ERG is supported by the ICSC Research Department and the ICSC London office.

Mission and Objectives of the Group:

  • To identify and to participate in pan-European research initiatives sponsored by ICSC
  • To promote and guide best practices for researching the European retail real estate industry
  • To create a network of researchers for the retail real estate industry throughout Europe and to facilitate the sharing of market intelligence
  • To organise research seminars or other forums that reach a broad audience of professional retail real estate researchers

Current ERG Projects

Pan-European Shopping Centre Executive Survey
A confidential monthly survey that monitors shopping centre executives' opinions on the current and future state of the industry. It measures the current condition and future direction of four critical indicators of industry health and shopping centre valuation: sales, footfall, occupancy and rents.

Pan-European Shopping Centre Benchmarking
Building on research currently being undertaken by many of the National Councils, ICSC, in association with its European Research Group and Retail Asset Management Committee, is in the process of developing a pan-European shopping centre sales index, analysing turnover per sq. m. by retail category in a sample of shopping centres across a number of European countries. Other benchmarking data may be collected as well, including footfall.
